Eligibility Criteria:

    • Stenographer Grade C: 18 to 30 years
    • Stenographer Grade D: 18 to 27 years
    • Age relaxation is provided for reserved categories as per government rules (e.g., 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC).
  • Nationality: Indian citizens, subjects of Bhutan/Nepal, Tibetan refugees, and Indian origin migrants with permanent intent to settle in India are eligible.
  • Proficiency in Stenography: While no prior experience is required, proficiency in stenography is essential for the Skill Test.

Application Process:

  1. Visit the new official SSC website: https://ssc.gov.in/
  2. Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) if you haven't already. Old OTR credentials from ssc.nic.in will not work on the new website.
  3. Login with your registration ID and password.
  4. Fill in the detailed application form with all required personal and educational details.
  5. Upload scanned images of your passport-sized photograph and signature as per the specified dimensions and size.
  6. Pay the application fee (Rs. 100/- for General/OBC/EWS candidates; women, SC, ST, PwD, and Ex-Servicemen candidates are exempted from fee payment).
  7. Review the application form carefully and submit it.
  8. Take a printout of the submitted application form for future reference.

Selection Process: The selection process typically involves two stages:

  1. Computer-Based Test (CBT): This is an online objective multiple-choice test.
  2. Skill Test in Stenography: Candidates shortlisted from the CBT will appear for this test.

Exam Pattern (CBT):

  • Total Questions: 200
  • Total Marks: 200
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

Skill Test:

  • Dictation: One dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi.
    • Grade C: 100 words per minute (w.p.m)
    • Grade D: 80 w.p.m
  • Transcription on Computer:
    • Stenographer Grade C:
      • English: 40 minutes
      • Hindi: 55 minutes
    • Stenographer Grade D:
      • English: 50 minutes
      • Hindi: 65 minutes
